Turkish Rising Star Cellist Jamal Aliyev

Recital on 15 May 2022 7:30 pm at Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall

Premiere Performances of Hong Kong (Premiere Performances) is delighted to be bringing Turkish rising-star cellist Jamal Aliyev for his long-awaited Hong Kong début, live on stage, on 15 May 2022, 7:30pm at Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall.

“…countless little touches of imaginative colour… whirling and shimmering… Thought-provoking.” Gramophone on Jamal Aliyev

Turkish rising-star cellist Jamal Aliyev finally makes his Hong Kong debut with this spicy and heartfelt recital programme with pianists Evelyn Chang and Vanessa Wong Wai-yin! Jamal Aliyev is rapidly becoming one of the most sought-after cellists of his generation. Since his solo debut at the BBC Proms in 2017, the young cellist has been invited as a soloist and in recitals around Europe to rave reviews. Hugely popular in Turkey, the cellist has given recitals with composer Fazil Say, and has performed concertos with various well-known orchestras in his home country. As the centrepiece of his recital, Jamal Aliyev will be performing the captivating Fazil Say Cello Sonata inspired by four Turkish cities (Asian premiere).  The programme will also feature the world premiere of the Kâtibim Jazz Variations written by LA-based Turkish composer Cem Oslu, written for Jamal Aliyev.

Jamal Aliyev was originally scheduled to be performing in the Beare’s Premiere Music Festival in January 2022. The event was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Tickets for the Recital are available now at pphk.org, art-mate and URBTIX from $180.

Premiere Performances and Hong Kong Sinfonietta are delighted to continue their collaboration in bringing international artists to Hong Kong. Jamal Aliyev will be performing with Hong Kong Sinfonietta in the “Cellomania with Jamal Aliyev” concert (21 May). Enjoy 10% off when purchasing standard tickets to both the recital and the concert in the same transaction at URBTIX.
