For centuries, female composers created works that equaled—and often influenced—their male contemporaries, only to be erased by a canon that dismissed them as “ornaments” rather than authors. This lecture tells the story of three amazing women composers—Emilie Mayer, Grażyna Bacewicz, and Cécile Chaminade—who had the confidence to compose despite societal barriers, and how their music has been rediscovered in the 21st-century.
