This afternoon concert is the perfect introduction to the wind family of instruments and small ensemble playing through Prokofiev’s classic work, Peter and the Wolf. This symphonic fairytale uses a cast of vibrant characters and a charming story to introduce children to different woodwind instruments. A young boy named Peter disobeys his grandfather and climbs over the garden wall. When he encounters a wolf, with quick thinking and the help of his friends – a bird, a duck and a cat – Peter captures the wolf and it is taken to the zoo.
Other highlights of the concert include family favourites, from traditional folk songs and classical music to blockbuster movie themes and lively cartoon melodies.
