Rachel Wong was a graduate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree and Postgraduate Diploma of Education in Music. She also obtained her Professional Diploma in Oboe Performance from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Rachel received her Master of Performance Degree in Oboe from Sydney Conservatorium of Music of University of Sydney, where she attended on full scholarship.
Her oboe teachers include Prof. Anthony Camden, the former Dean of Music of HKAPA; Diana Doherty, the Principal oboist of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra; and Dr. Rhondda May.
Rachel frequently appears in various local music performances. She performed with different local orchestras such as Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Pan Asia Orchestra, Ponte Orchestra, Musica Viva, Learners Orchestra and Hong Kong Strings. She was one of the founders of the chamber music group, Viva! Pipers, a woodwind quintet which is supported by the Premiere Performances of Hong Kong that aims to provide interactive educational music workshops for local schools. Last year, with the support of BNP Paribas, Viva! Pipers reached out to 100,000 student audiences under the Chamber Music In School Programme.
In January 2020, Rachel participated in the opening concert of the 11th Beare’s Premiere Music Festival, performing Bach’s First Brandenburg Concerto and with the oboe master Gordon Hunt.
