Who is Premiere Performances?

Premiere Performances of Hong Kong is a registered charity and one of the city’s leading arts organisations.

Founded in 2007 by Andrea Fessler, Premiere Performances brings internationally celebrated musicians and the world’s brightest rising stars to Hong Kong for solo recitals, chamber music and community outreach, building a vibrant local arts scene and making the inspiration of a live music performance accessible to all. We have been inspiring audiences with world-class performances and cultural innovation for nearly two decades through our recitals, chamber music concerts, jazz performances, family concerts, in-school performances, and outreach & education events.

Since 2007, Premiere Performances has introduced Hong Kong to the world’s most remarkable artists, having presented the Hong Kong debuts of musicians who have since become superstars — artists like Yuja Wang (2009), Nicola Benedetti (2011), Miloš Karadaglić (2012), the Jerusalem Quartet (2013), Augustin Hadelich (2014), Bomsori Kim (2018), Tony Siqi Yun (2022), Sean Shibe (2024) and many more since 2007.

Twenty years ago, chamber music was practically non‑existent in Hong Kong. In 2007, there were only 15 professional chamber music performances. By 2016, there were over 130—thanks to Premiere Performances.

Andrea D. Fessler—an avid consumer of culture—founded Premiere Performances in 2007 to fill this musical void. She saw the demand for classical music concerts but lamented the lack of solo recitals and chamber music, both vital components of the cultural landscape of every world city.

Since 2007, children and adults from all walks of life and all across Hong Kong have been inspired by the music and artists presented by Premiere Performances. Between the Recital Series, the Beare’s Premiere Music Festival, the Family Concert series, Premiere Performances Jazz and Chamber Music in Schools, audiences can enjoy world‑class recitals and chamber music, making the inspiration of a live music performance accessible to all.
