Fiddlesticks comprises leading Baroque players from across the early music scene, centred round three violin soloists Huw Daniel, Kati Debretzeni and Debbie Diamond, supported by core continuo team cellist Kinga Gáborjáni and harpsichordist Steven Devine. Part of the group’s creativity is based on a continuo team that can expand or contract to match the performance space and repertoire. All of the members of Fiddlesticks regularly perform in festivals throughout the UK and Europe, but they have come together specifically to focus on Baroque repertoire for three violins and continuo.
Programmes
Fiddlesticks can offer several different programmes, or we can create versatile bespoke packages that can be inclusive for any audience. All programmes contain works that showcase the musicians on solo instruments, in addition to the full ensemble. Please visit ‘Programmes’ in the menu to learn more.
All programmes can also include an education event. This can be a pre or post concert talk, a more formal lecture, masterclasses, and/or chamber group coaching.
The Ensemble
Fiddlesticks was formed with the purpose of exploring music written specifically for three violins. The players, all highly experienced soloists, directors and leaders in their own right, bring together a deep understanding of the repertoire and early music expertise, promising an innovative programme with fresh interpretations of well-loved pieces and the introduction of more obscure works.
“We are all friends who are used to playing together in an orchestral setting,” says Huw Daniel. “It’s a joyous moment when we suddenly break free from that world and express ourselves as individuals, burst out with our virtuosic moments, imitate each other, argue, and relish the extraordinary counterpoint in our programme.”
