Violist Paul Neubauer’s exceptional musicality and effortless playing led the New York Times to call him “a master musician.” At 21, he was appointed the principal violist of the New York Philharmonic, the youngest principal string player in its history. Neubauer has also appeared as a soloist with over 100 orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, and Beethovenhalle Orchestras.In 2018, Neubauer made his Chicago Symphony subscription debut with conductor Riccardo Muti. In the same year, Neubauer and pianist Wu Han gave the U.S. premiere of Shostakovich’s newly discovered Impromptu (for viola and piano). A passionate promoter of new music, Neubauer has premiered viola concertos by composers including BélaBartók (revised version of the Viola Concerto), Henri Lazarof, and Krzysztof Penderecki.A two-time Grammy nominee, Neubauer has recorded on numerous labels including Deutsche Grammophon and Sony Classical. He is a member of the faculties of The Juilliard School and Mannes School of Music.
